The Signal Station

Kilo · I wish to communicate with you

Make your number.

When a ship came in sight of a signal station, she made her number: she ran up her own letters so the shore knew who she was. Make yours. Your initials or a short word, up to eight flags, on the board with the rest of the fleet.

Every flag is read out in the International Code of Signals. Some of them say more than you meant.

A bare halyard. Type to bend on the first flag.

Compose your hoist

Up to 8 letters, A to Z: your initials or a short word. One flag per letter.

The reading

Nothing aloft yet.

Signal card: sized for Instagram, every flag read out. Sticker: your hoist, cut out and ready to send.

Hoists are public. Letters only, nothing anyone would be ashamed to fly. Anything reported three times comes down until we look at it.
